A "P" minted El Yunque National Forest quarter. The El Yunque National Forest quarter is the first of the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters from the U.S. Mint. El Yunque National Forest was first established as a national site on January 17, 1903. Located in Puerto Rico, the forest is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. A small forest, just 28,000-acres, with great biodiversity. The reverse of the quarter depicts a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot (highly endangered) behind an epiphyte plant with tropical flora in the background. Inscriptions on the quarter include: El YUNQUE, PUERTO RICO, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
