Performances by respected and authentic Civil War musicians will fill the air on August 14 and 15 at Gettysburg National Military Park during the 20th Annual Gettysburg Music Muster. These one-of-a-kind performances, played mainly on original instruments, include ballads, Victorian dance music and dance performances, along with fifes, banjo, mandolin, and more.

Florida's Latest Invader Could Pose A Threat To Ecosystems Across The Country

At first glance, the latest foreign invader to threaten Florida ecosystems doesn't seem nearly as impressive as Burmese pythons, whose length can exceed twenty feet, or lionfish, whose colorful spines can deliver a venomous sting. Despite its small size, however, the wider impact of the "New Guinea flatworm" could eventually be even more serious than that of the pythons.

Birding In The National Parks: Sapsuckers At Rocky Mountain National Park

There’s more to Rocky Mountain National Park than the extraordinary views from Trail Ridge Road. Willow-choked streams, open meadows, pine forests, and all the edges where those habitats meet make for a park bursting with birding opportunities. After a not particularly spectacular time up in the tundra, I enjoyed a couple wonderful birding days in two very different habitats last month. This is the story of the first of those days.

Yellow-Legged Frogs Being Restored To Yosemite National Park Lakes

Yosemite National Park is restoring the federally endangered Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog to alpine lakes within the park. The yellow-legged frog was once the most common frog in mountain lakes throughout the Sierra Nevada, but introduced predators and diseases caused their population to decline by over 95 percent.

Move In Congress To Overturn National Park Service's Ban On Disposable Water Bottles

While water filling stations are becoming commonplace in more and more parks across the National Park System, there are those in Congress who believe the National Park Service's ban on disposable plastic water bottles is unsafe and actually generates more, not less, plastic waste.

Op-Ed|National Park Service Has Correct Approach To Bear Viewing At Katmai National Park

For the past 10 years, I have been actively engaged in the discussions about the future of Brooks Camp at Katmai National Park and Preserve and whether or how to implement the plan adopted in 1995 to have the federal government pay to move both Brooks Lodge and the National Park Service facilities to the south side of the Brooks River and out of prime brown bear habitat.

Florida Congressional Offices Want To Block Biscayne National Park's Fisheries Plan

A challenge to Biscayne National Park's efforts to improve the health of their fisheries has been mounted by three of Florida's congressional representatives, including one who has drafted legislation to require state approval before the National Park Service moves to restrict commercial or recreational fishing access in areas of the Great Lakes or U.S. marine waters that it oversees.
