Mention a "national lakeshore" and thoughts will almost immediately jump to summer sun, frolicking in the water, and sand under your feet. But lakeshores endure winter, too, and the season brings its own magic to these places.

As this short video from Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore makes clear, you're not likely to get wet, at least not intentionally, during a winter visit to the lakeshore. But that doesn't mean a trip to Indiana Dunes in winter isn't worth it.

There's "shelf ice" to see along the park's 15-mile-long shoreline as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing a bit further inland when conditions allow. Spend a couple minutes and allow lakeshore Ranger Jean-Pierre Anderson to introduce you to these aspects of Indiana Dunes.
