Memorial Day 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the USS Arizona Memorial. This haunting US Navy photo instantly communicates the sad truth that the battleship still contains the remains of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors killed on the ship in the December 7, 1941. Special events will mark this year's anniversary. The Memorial is one of the most powerful experiences to be had on National Park Service property. Read about this year's events and how to really appreciate the Memorial when you visit Hawaii.
