Description: George W. Childs Recreation Site is a 155-acre recreation area located within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Pike County, Pennsylvania. Amenities within Childs Park include expansive hemlock groves and waterfalls, a picnic area, comfort stations, and a 1.5-mile loop-trail along the falls. The National Park Service proposes to rehabilitate Childs Park in response to deteriorating infrastructure and the continued degradation to its cultural features and natural resources.
This environmental assessment evaluates two alternatives for rehabilitating Childs Park; i.e. the preferred alternative, which is the proposed rehabilitation, and the no action alternative. Major components of the project include the restoration of the natural resources, including the hemlock forest, the repair and/or replacement of the public use facilities (i.e., parking areas, trails, comfort stations, and bridges), rehabilitation of the cultural features, and improved interpretive signage. The no action alternative does not change the current layout, condition, or management of Childs Park.
