Work On Long-Range General Management Plan For Everglades National Park Slows Down

The country's fiscal fitness, or lack thereof, is forcing Everglades National Park officials to re-examine the direction of development at Flamingo and Everglades City, and that, in turn, is slowing work on the park's long-range general management plan.

Slain Mount Rainier National Park Ranger 9th In Park Service History To Be Murdered In Line of Duty

When Mount Rainier National Park law enforcement Ranger Margaret Anderson was shot and killed on New Year's Day, she became the ninth ranger in the history of the National Park Service to be murdered in the line of duty, according to Park Service records.

An Iraqi war veteran wanted in connection with the slaying of a ranger in Mount Rainier National Park was found dead Monday afternoon in a drainage near one of the park's hallmark waterfalls just south of Paradise.

While most impacts of the diminished snowfall so far this winter across the Rockies have been negative, one positive is that the Harpers Corner Road at Dinosaur National Monument has remained open.

Ranger Shot And Killed At Mount Rainier National Park

A 34-year-old Mount Rainier National Park ranger was shot and killed in the line of duty Sunday as she tried to apprehend a man who fled a check stop at Paradise. Fellow rangers were prevented from reaching the downed ranger for about 90 minutes as the shooter pinned them down with gunfire.

New Fee Schedule At Denali National Park and Preserve

A new fee structure is in place at Denali National Park and Preserve. Out is the old $20 per vehicle entrance fee. In is a $10 per person fee for visitors age 16 and older.

2011 Visitation to National Park Units In Alaska Up About 2 Percent Over 2010 Figures

Tourism traffic to Alaskan units of the National Park System grew by roughly 2 percent in 2011 to a total of 2.32 million visitors, according to preliminary National Park Service statistics.

It was big, potentially bad, and fell at the right time -- sometime in the night when there was no snowmobile or snowcoach traffic coming into Yellowstone National Park from the West Entrance.
