Lodging Specials Are Sprouting

Share

OK, OK, I've been a bit remiss in not passing on some of the lodging deals that are popping up around parkdom. So many things to track, so little time to track 'em.
    Here's what I know:
    * With Denali marking its 90th this year, if you're shrewd you'll be able to find some $90-a-night rooms. The specials, which represent a 60 percent discount off normal prices, will only be offered nine days this year: June 7, 14 and 22; July 5, 12 and 19; and August 2, 9 and 16. The rates are good at rooms in the McKinley Village Lodge and Grande Denali Lodge. For more details or to book, check out this site or call 800-276-7234.
    * The lodges are starting to open in Shenandoah. The Skyland Resort opened yesterday, Big Meadows Lodge opens April 5, and the Lewis Mountain Cabins open April 13. Some rooms at Big Meadows Lodge have been renovated with air-conditioning, wood floors, new furniture, and cable TV. If you're into bluegrass, Skyland will host a Bluegrass Jamboree on May 5 featuring Cliff Waldron of The New Shades. For details on lodging or the jamboree, click here or call 800-778-2872.
    * If you've always wanted to go to Death Valley, this spring might be just the time.  The Furnace Creek Inn and Ranch Resort is offering a Living History Package for two Sundays through Thursdays that, for $375, includes two nights at the ranch, two reservations for a tour of Scotty's Castle, a book that details the history of the castle and a couple of other trinkets. The package is good between April 22 and May 10, a good time to visit Death Valley before things really heat up. You can find details and some other packages here.
