National Park Service, Unable To Complete Concessions Contracts On Time, Moves To Extend Dozens Across Park System

Share

Hammering out concessions contracts across the National Park System is not an easy, or quick, job. Failure to reach new contracts before existing ones expired at the end of 2014 prompted the National Park Service to propose extending dozens of contracts for up to a year to keep visitor services operating without interruption.

"Pursuant to 36 CFR 51.23, the National Park Service has determined the proposed short-term extensions are necessary to avoid interruption of visitor services and has taken all reasonable and appropriate steps to consider alternatives to avoid such interruption. The publication of this notice merely reflects the intent of the National Park Service but does not bind the National Park Service to extend any of the contracts listed below.

I agree - concessions are the legacy of Mather and Albright, since they established the first concessions.

"Scenery is a hollow enjoyment to the tourist who sets out in the morning after an indigestible breakfast and a fitful night's sleep on an impossible bed."  Stephen Mather
