Hiker Found Dead In Yellowstone National Park

Share

A Montana man who failed to return from a hike at Yellowstone National Park has turned up dead on a trail near Lake Village.

The man, whose identity was being withheld, was reported missing by co-workers Friday morning. Rangers discovered the man's body around noon Friday in the vicinity of the Elephant Back Loop Trail in the Lake Village area of the park. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The Elephant Back Loop Trail and immediate area were closed to hikers while the investigation continues. There were signs of grizzly bear activity in the area, but officials couldn't say whether the death, which likely occurred on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, stemmed from a bear attack.

Hikers are advised to stay on designated trails, leave an itinerary with others, hike in groups of three or more people, be alert for bears, make noise, and carry bear spray.
