Some slightly higher fees are coming to Cape Hatteras National Seashore and nearby Wright Brothers National Memorial/NPS

Some higher fees are kicking in at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina as of November 1, with higher entrance fees at Wright Brothers National Memorial and higher camping fees at some Cape Hatteras campgrounds.

At Wright Brothers, the per-person entrance fee is going from $4 for all visitors 16 and older to $7, while the annual pass will go from $20 to $30. Park officials say the fee increase will support a wide range of projects to improve the park and visitor experiences.  Some examples are: maintenance of the memorial facilities, improvements and rehabilitation of the granite monument and other park structures, paving and road repairs, completion of a boundary survey of the Memorial properties, and to expedite and enhance future projects such as an ADA trail along the flight path.

At the national seashore, the nightly fee for staying at the Oregon Inlet, Frisco, and Ocracoke campgrounds will increase from $20 (at Oregon Inlet and Frisco) and $23 at Ocracoke to $28 at all three campgrounds. For Senior and Access pass holders the fee will go to $14 a night.

"The expanded amenity fees for campgrounds will be utilized for potential future upgrades and enhancement of modern amenities for all of the seashore’s campgrounds, such as water and electric hookups to individual sites, and to replace the Frisco Campground kiosk," park officials said.

Additional revenue from this fee increase will allow park management to enhance visitor services.
