Searchers look for clues that might lead them to an 80-year-old man thought to be missing in Shenandoah National Park/NPS

Deteriorating weather conditions slowed the search in Shenandoah National Park for an 80-year-old Virginian missing since Saturday evening.

A park release Thursday said that weather and concerns for the safety of searchers necessitated a temporary scale-back of the search for Wallace Anderson, of Sperryville.

Mr. Anderson was reported missing on Saturday evening. Since then, personnel from Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office, Shenandoah National Park, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and many area agencies and volunteer search organizations have combed the area around Mr. Anderson’s residence and in the national park.

The search has been supported by multiple canine teams and air operations when possible.

Three ground teams were continuing to search in high probability areas Thursday and plans were under way to resume full-scale operations this weekend when the weather is forecast to improve and additional teams are available.
