Highway Access To Cedar Breaks National Monument Expected Next Week

Highway access to Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah is expected to reopen on Tuesday/NPS

With snowdrifts giving way to plows, highway access to Cedar Breaks National Monument is expected to open next week.

Cedar Breaks Scenic Drive, aka Utah Highway 148, should be open to vehicles on Tuesday, June 4.

Monument visitor services, such as restrooms, the Information Center, and ranger programs will be available beginning June 7. A few feet of snow still cover all the park’s trails. Park overlooks have ice and snow patches. Visitors are advised to use caution while in the park and to follow all posted signs. The Point Supreme Campground is estimated to be open to the public in late June.

“We are excited to open visitor services for the season and share the magnificent snow covered vistas created by this spring’s storms with everyone,” said Cedar Breaks Superintendent Kathleen Gonder. “We anticipate a spectacular wildflower display this season and are looking forward to a great summer in the high country.”

Heavy vehicles, those weighing more than 26,000 pounds, are prohibited from using SR 148 until the subsurface has dried. Road signs outlining the weight restriction are posted on all routes leading to the monument to remind trucks and other heavy vehicles to use alternate routes.
