The South Florida National Parks Trust is now The Alliance for Florida's National Parks/NPS file

For the past 21 years, the South Florida National Parks Trust has worked to raise charitable dollars for Biscayne, Dry Tortugas, and Everglades national parks and Big Cypress National Preserve. As the funding increased, so did the Trust's reach. To reflect its work effort and the many individuals and organizations involved in it, the Trust is now The Alliance for Florida's National Parks.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Alliance raises both money and awareness to support programs and activities within these national parks. Areas of focus include Environmental Education, Preservation & Protection, Community Engagement, Restoration, and Exploration.

"The scope of work that our organization has done within Florida’s four national parks has continuously expanded over the years, reaching from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean to the inner reaches of the cypress domes and even into classrooms around the country," the organization said this week in announcing the name change. "As we grow, we need a name that will grow with us. Because we are now more than just a trust and, honestly, we always have been.

"So please say hello to The Alliance for Florida's National Parks," the release said. "With this new, more inclusive name, we hope to have a greater influence within the Florida community and beyond - creating more lifelong allies for these public lands."
