High Winds Plague Lake Powell Boating

Share

Wind damage knocked the fuel services out of commission at Lake Powell's Dangling Rope Marina/Aramark

High winds are making things difficult for boaters at Lake Powell in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where officials Friday announced wind damage to the Dangling Rope Marina had temporarily ended fuel service there.

Gusting winds had partially separated the fuel dock from the main dock, making it unsafe for visitors or employees. Visitors may not use the dock for any purpose until further notice, a park release said Friday. The marina store, café, and lift station remain closed until further notice, it added.

The Dangling Rope Marina is the only place to obtain boat fuel between the Wahweap area downlake and the Bullfrog area uplake, a distance of approximately 100 miles (the Hall's Crossing Fuel Dock is not yet open for the season). Boaters are advised to plan ahead for their needs. (For boaters averaging 20 to 25 MPH, the Wahweap to Bullfrog 100-mile trip takes approximately 4 to 5 hours without stopping.)

The park is working to restore fuel service as soon as possible.
