"Festus," A Humpback Whale Spotted For Four Decades In Glacier Bay National Park, Is Dead

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is famous for its namesake bay and the ringing mountains, but it's also renowned for its marine life, particularly the whales that make the park home for parts of the year. One whale that long has been a familiar resident of the bay, "Festus," is no more, having been found dead floating in the park's waters.

The outcomes included one man bitten on his calf by a sow, and a young grizzly rewarded with food when hikers threw a day pack at him.

Bear Incident Leads To Temporary Closure Of Canadian Side Of The Chilkoot Trail

Parks Canada has issued a trail closure for the Canadian side of the Chilkoot Trail in response to a bear incident at Lindeman City earlier this week. Response teams from Parks Canada and Yukon Conservation Officers are working to identify the bear and return the trail to open status as soon as possible.

Two Bears Struck By Vehicles, Killed Sunday In Grand Teton National Park

Two bears died Sunday in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming after they were struck by vehicles. The first, an adult female black bear, was struck on U.S. Highway 89 north of the Deadman’s Bar Road Junction around 7:30 p.m. The second, a male grizzly bear cub of the year, was hit later the same evening on the North Park Road (U.S. Highway 89) between the Pilgrim Creek Road Junction and Colter Bay Junction.
