(1)  At the Tri-State Peak in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park , visitors can stand in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia.

(2) The "Guadalupe" in Guadalupe Mountains National Park means "wolf valley" in Spanish.

(3)  George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, so the year 1932 was the 200th anniversary year of Washington’s birth.

(4)  The 9,155-acre Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, a component of Gateway National Recreation Area,  is the largest natural open space in New York City.

(5)  Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument in Texas is the only national park besides Sequoia whose name has a word beginnng with "Q".

(6)  Yellowstone National Park has the largest backcountry lake in the coterminous states.  The park's Shoshone Lake, which is not reachable by road, has 28 miles of shoreline and a surface area of about 12.6 square miles.

(7)  Prior to the Civil War, the date of the Battle of New Orleans victory -- January 8 -- was celebrated as a national holiday second in importance only to July 4. The site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans is now preserved in the Chalmette Battlefield unit of Louisiana's Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.

(8)  b --  Michigan's complement of national parks includes Isle Royale National Park and these four others: Keweenaw National Historical Park, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and River Raisin National Battlefield Park.

(9)  d -- Having been established on May 11, 1910, Glacier National Park has already entered its second century of existence as a national park.  Craters of the Moon National Monument (1924), Mount Rushmore  National Memorial (1925),  and Acadia National Park (1929, and are not there yet.

(10)  b -- The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980 (ANILCA) requires Congressional ratification of the use of the Antiquities Act in Alaska for withdrawals of greater than 5,000 acres. This restriction was put in place after President Jimmy Carter used the Antiquities Act to proclaim 56 million acres of National Monuments in Alaska.

(11)  c -- During 1920-1934, the former Platt National Park (now a component of Oklahoma's Chickasaw National Recreation Area) had a small elk herd.  In 1934, during the Great Depression, most of these elk were slaughtered to provide food for needy families.

(12)   c -- California's Devils Postpile National Monument is situated in the Reds Meadow Valley area of Inyo National Forest.  The US Forest Service charges a standard amenity fee for access and use of the Reds Meadow Valley area. The money is used to maintain and improve visitor facilities and services in the valley.
