Search for missing Washington hiker based at Grave Creek Trailhead/NPS map

The search for a missing Washington hiker is based at the Graves Creek Trailhead/NPS map

Four days of searching have failed to locate a 78-year-old Washington man who was last seen at the Graves Creek Trailhead in the southwestern corner of Olympic National Park.

Despite extensive efforts involving dog teams, ground searchers, and US Coast Guard aircraft, searchers have not found Duane Miles, of Beaver.

Miles was said to be a fit and very skilled hiker who often travels alone off-trail looking for shed elk antlers. He was last seen October 19. His vehicle is parked at the Graves Creek Campground and the search is focused in that area.

If you have visited the Graves Creek area since October 19 or have any information regarding the whereabouts of Miles, contact 888-653-0009.

Those mountains eat people like a 10 year old eats candy. Not smart to go off trail...animals there see people as food.

I'm going on the assumption that being an experienced hiker, he possibly was injured and is laying low. I also know that cougar are prevalent in that area as well having seen a few. I am hoping for the best.

There was mention of an open sardine can found in the search area.  I know this person and he was not the type to leave items on the ground that way. if, in fact, this belonged to my friend, I suspect he had to drop it in a hurry. Depending on the type of terrain this was found he either tripped and fell or had to get away quickly from some kind of theat either human or animal. I will continue praying for him.
