Welcome to National Park Week Quiz #2! Each of the 11 park names listed below contains at least one error – that is, at least one thing that would have to be changed to make the park’s official name read correctly. We’ve shown what's wrong with the first fixer-upper, and now it's your turn to do the editing. You'll need to work carefully. BTW, two of these fixer-uppers have two possible answers, and either is acceptable.
(1) Bob’s Old Fort National Historic Site (should be Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site)
(2) Redwoods National Park
(3) Gulf Island National Seashore
(4) Smokey Mountains National Park
(5) Big Horn Canyon Recreation Area
(6) Chaco Canyon National Historical Park
(7) Klondike Gold Historical Park
(8) Prince William Forest Preserve
(9) Minuteman National Historical Park
(10) Black Canyon National Park
(11) Jefferson National Memorial
If you can supply the 10 corrected names before 12:00 midnight EST today you will be eligible for Traveler’s National Park Week prize drawing and a chance to win a National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map for the national park of your choice.
Answers and a list of readers who answered correctly will be posted in tomorrow's Traveler.
No cheating!
If we catch you engaged in sneakery, we will make you read -- in the original Russian, of course -- Leo Tolstoy’s two epic novels, War and Peace and Anna Karenina, then discuss (citing examples as appropriate) the various influences of these two classics on the evolution of historical fiction in Western literature. You will be expected, of course, to thoroughly discuss the pros and cons of the third-person omniscient perspective.
Comments
Nicely done, Ken. You are first in the winners circle (again), so you get to pick the best seat.
Aside to R. S.: That list you emailed to Kurt instead of posting as a comment here had four wrong answers. Better take a closer look.
You had one wrong (incomplete) on your list, viewmtn. You did, however, provide both answers for a different fixer-upper. So..... we are admitting you to the winners circle, but you will have to use the servants enrance.
Nicely done, KevinM; you're in.
That's the way it's done, EEW. Welcome to the winners circle.
A real tour de force, Connier, though I must say you could work on your punctuation skills. ;o) Welcome to the winners circle.
You're in, celbert, but only because the Quizmeister is feeling generous this morning. You botched one of the two possible repairs of "Jefferson National Memorial," but got the other one right. A duck hook followed by 285 down the middle.
