Expanded Human Access Could Be On Tap For Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge

Hunting, off-road vehicle use, bike use, and some commercial uses are being considered for the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, a nearly 27,000-acre refuge near Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida that was established in 1989 to protect habitat for the endangered cat while allowing for "limited visitor use."

Two Separate Populations Of Threatened Frogs Breeding At Santa Monica Mountains

California red-legged frogs might be a threatened species, but those in the Santa Monica Mountains of California are proving to be a resilient species, as well. While the November 2018 Woolsey Fire swept across most of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area there, two separate populations of the frogs have been found breeding in the area burned by the fire.

Drought Prompts Supplemental Water For Point Reyes National Seashore Elk

Point Reyes National Seashore in California is providing supplemental water to the Tomales Point Tule Elk Reserve at the seashore in response to historic drought conditions. Although some natural water sources continue to be available, these sources may dry if this year becomes the worst drought on record for Marin County as expected, the seashore said Friday in a release.
