Washington’s National Park Fund Hosts Annual Spring Fundraiser On April 13

Washington’s National Park Fund will host its annual Spring Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 13, at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion. Focused on “National Parks, Personal Experiences,” this lively event aims to raise more than $300,000 to support priority park projects in Mount Rainier, North Cascades and Olympic national parks.

Who really does manage most national park lodgings? For the big operations in places such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Shenandoah, corporations. Not surprisingly, while many of the 500 management contracts administered by the National Park Service, such as providing firewood or operating a bicycle rental operation, are relatively straightforward, those for large commercial facilities such as lodging in Yosemite or Yellowstone are extremely complicated. Olympic National Park Backcountry Reservations Moving To Recreation.Gov

The Olympic National Park Wilderness Information Center will transition to an online reservation system through Recreation.gov beginning at noon on March 18. The new online reservation system will allow backpackers to check the availability of sites in real time, plan their trip and receive immediate confirmation, and streamline the park's wilderness permit reservations, according to the park staff.

Lake Crescent Spruce Railroad Trail At Olympic National Park Closed For Improvements

Work has resumed on the Spruce Railroad Trail at Olympic National Park and isn't expected to be completed before mid-April. Until then, then the entire 4-mile trail along Lake Crescent will be closed to all traffic between the Camp David Jr. Road Trailhead and the Lyre River Trailhead for public safety.
