Getting Around Canyon de Chelly

Though Canyon de Chelly covers nearly 84,000 acres, the main attraction is the canyon itself with its cliff dwellings and Navajo farms. During the busy season you're also likely to encounter Navajo artisans selling their works spread out on the ground or tables.

Because the canyon is considered sacred to the Navajo, you can only enter it with a Navajo guide. Private companies registered with the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department provide canyon tours in the park, and you can travel by Jeep, horseback, or on foot.
