Glacier Records Wettest January on Record

Global warming? Climate change? Whatever you want to call it, the folks at Glacier National Park say this past January was the wettest on record for them. Of course, the park's record books only go back to 1950, but still, when you more than double your average precipitation for a month, that stands out.
According to park officials, West Glacier received 7.66 inches of precipitation in January, compared to the 10-year mean precipitation mark of 3.42 inches. Total January snowfall at West Glacier came in at 34.4 inches, which was more than a foot above the 22.2 inches received during January 2005.
Along with January being a wet month at West Glacier, it also was on the warm side, as the average daily temperature of 32.7 degrees edged the old record of 32 degrees noted back in 1953.
The coldest January noted at West Glacier was in 1979, when the average temperature for the month was a bracing 3.6 degrees.
