Tuesday's Listening Session on the Centennial

Well, I'm still waiting for the Interior Department to settle on a firm location for tomorrow's "listening session" being arranged for the public to say how it really wants to celebrate the Park Service's centennial in 2016.
I do understand, though, that the confusion over where this meeting will take place is not the fault of anyone in the Park Service, but rather seems to be tied to a power struggle of sorts within the DOI.
Anyway, for now I'd place my bets on what the folks at Great Smoky Mountains National Park are saying: The meeting will be held in Gatlinburg at the W.L. Mills Conference Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If I hear something different I'll pass it on.
Now, I also have heard that all of the park superintendents in the agency's Southeast Region are scheduled to be meeting this week in Asheville, North Carolina, and that there's a plan to bus them all over to Gatlinburg for the listening session.
So, if you plan to attend, don't be intimidated by the high turnout of gray and green uniforms. Rather, consider it a great opportunity to interact with your favorite park's super!
