Picture in your mind a roiling, brilliant orange-red lava lake spewed forth from a cinder cone spewing ash and pumice in addition to lava. Now, picture this same scene, only solidified and flat, with bright green ferns and the brilliant red blooms of the ohia lehua growing here and there upon the black-gray pahoehoe and 'a'a lava rock, all surrounded by a lush rain forest, with a trail running through it.
