Molokai Light At Sunset, Kalaupapa National Historical Park

"When Hansen's disease (leprosy) was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands, King Kamehameha V banished all afflicted to the isolated Kalaupapa Peninsula on the north shore of Molokai. Since 1866, more than 8,000 people, mostly Hawaiians, have died at Kalaupapa. Once a prison, Kalaupapa is now a refuge for the few remaining residents who are cured but were forced to live their lives in isolation. The lighthouse first shone across the sea surrounding the Kalaupapa Peninsula just before sunset on September 9, 1909."

Arabia Mountain Sunrise, Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area

"Breathtaking monadnocks are the cornerstones of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area (AMNHA), which serves to celebrate these otherworldly rock outcrops and the surrounding region as a recreational wonder and cultural treasure. Lying east of Atlanta, the AMNHA includes pristine natural areas, former quarry and agricultural sites, spiritual centers, historic communities and buildings.

A Smoky, Serene Day On The Lake, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

"Whiskeytown Lake’s crystal-clear water is perhaps the most recognized feature of the park. However, water-based recreation is only a part of what the 42,000-acre Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has to offer. Visit waterfalls, hike through rugged mountains, explore California Gold Rush history, and observe post-fire ecology in action. Your national park is calling..."

Sunset From Hudson Point, Parashant National Monument

"The expansive views from Hudson Point is a special thrill for those visiting Parashant. The roads in this area are generally suitable for most 4x4 pickups and SUVs unless washed out by a storm. The BLM1003 road in Hidden Canyon is susceptible to washouts that can make the road impassible for all but UTVs. Contact us at the number at the bottom of the page to see if roads in this area have been washed out."

Caldwell Hart Colt Memorial Parish House, Coltsville National Historical Park

"When Samuel Colt started his Hartford factory on the banks of the Connecticut River in 1847, it followed years of mismanagement and failure. Soon, demand for Colt's revolver would change his fortunes and the Colt empire was born. Following Colt's untimely death in 1862, his wife, Elizabeth Colt, would lead the company to its legendary status, and influence Hartford for over 40 years."

An Afternoon View Of Park Point Landscape, Mesa Verde National Park

"The highest elevation in the park at 8,572 feet (2,612 m) above sea level, Park Point is a breezy and cool place to picnic or take in the view. To the north, the 13,000 and 14,000-foot (4,000+ meters) peaks of the San Juan Mountains are visible. To the south, the high deserts of New Mexico stretch out across rocky canyons.
