Zion National Park is looking for some hardy souls to help them mark wilderness boundaries in the park on February 19. NPS photo of Towers of the Virgin by Jack Greene.
Planning a mid-February visit to Zion National Park? The rangers are looking for some hardy souls to help them delineate the park's wilderness boundaries east of Springdale, Utah.
It was not quite a year ago that President Obama signed a bill into law designating more than 80 percent of Zion as officially designated wilderness. In celebration of the new designation, Zion rangers are looking for volunteers to assist during a Wilderness Work Day on February 19. On that date, from noon until 4 p.m., the rangers will be working on marking the park's boundary on the rugged hillsides east of Springdale.
To reward your efforts, or simply if you're interested in learning about the park's wilderness sections, there will be a free BBQ from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Zion Nature Center.
If you are interested in participating or need additional information, please contact Ray O’Neil at 435-772-7823.
