Isn't this so totally Californian: A winery is partnering with the Sequoia Parks Foundation to help fund research, restoration, and education pertaining to the mighty sequoias found in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks.
Sequoia Grove Winery and the parks foundation have launched the Sequoia Grove Winery Save a Tree Campaign. The program, which kicked off on Friday, National Arbor Day, Friday, will continue through the end of the year.
According to a press release, "Sequoia Grove's dedication to the environment and sustainable practices is part of the winery's heritage, as it is named after one of the last remaining groves of Redwoods in Napa Valley."
An official announcement of the partnership will take place at Sequoia Grove Winery today with executives from Sequoia Parks Foundation and Winemaker Molly Hill making a symbolic toast to signal the beginning of an important initiative.
The winery's support of the SPF helps to ensure the well-being of the mighty giant sequoias for future generations. In addition to an initial donation of $7,500, Sequoia Grove Winery will donate a percentage of sales through the Try a Bottle, Save a Tree on-premise wine promotion at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill (17 locations nationwide).
"This partnership signals the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the Sequoia Parks Foundation to ensure that giant sequoias will be around and enjoyed for years to come," said Michael Trujillo, the winery's president and director of winemaking.
"In a changing world, the giant sequoias and the parks they call home represent one of the greatest gifts that we can preserve for future generations," said Sally Bolger, Sequoia Parks Foundation executive director. "Our partnership with Sequoia Grove Winery will help us continue our mission."
