SB Special Agents and US Park Rangers are investigating a shooting that occurred in Hot Springs National Park on February 21, 2019 / NPS

Special Agents with the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch are assisting US Park Rangers of Hot Springs National Park in the investigation of a shooting incident that occurred on February 21, 2019 at about 7:00 p.m.

Located in Arkansas, Hot Springs National Park protects thermal pools that can reach over 140 degrees F. The warm waters were so popular with the rich and poor alike that the entire town of Hot Springs grew up around them.

The shooting occured at the West Mountain Overlook, and when rangers and Hot Spring Police officers responded to the site they found a man with a single gunshot wound. Rangers provided initial patient care and secured the crime scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.

While park officials do not believe there are any ongoing safety concerns for the public at this time, they are looking for more information on the shooting (see contact methods below). The West Mountain Summit and all trails on West Mountain are now open to the public.

If you have information about this incident that could help investigators, please contact the National Park Service:

NRA and idiot Republicans allowing guns in our National Parks - what could go wrong?

JohnLen - it is illegal to shoot a gun in a National Park.  Obviously banning shooting, like banning carrying, doesn't stop someone that does not care about breaking the law.

As a Republican and a NRA member I find your comment extremely distasteful as well as unfair and untrue
