An investigation into sexual harassment charges against a management official at De Soto National Memorial in Florida not only found credence in the allegations, but also uncovered a number of other inappropriate issues for the manager, a report released Thursday said.

Cutting Infested Trees Has Suppressed Pine Beetles At Fire Island National Seashore

While parks are battling an aphid-like insect that is devastating Eastern hemlock stands, Fire Island National Seashore announced last week that cutting down infested trees has significantly diminished its population of invasive southern pine beetles, which can attack and kill pine trees in two to four months.

Grand Opening Of Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park Visitor Center

The public is invited to the grand opening of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park Visitor Center on March 11 and 12. The National Park Service and the Maryland Park Service have teamed up to provide special family-friendly grand opening events and activities at the site and a first look at the new visitor center. It is located at: 4068 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek, Maryland. All events are free.

BLM Regs That Would Give Public Greater Ability To Comment On Planning Scrapped By Senate

National park boundaries are largely imaginary things, without walls or fences. As a result, what happens on adjacent lands can impact parks, which is one reason there is an outcry over the U.S. Senate's decision, by a party-line vote, to scrap a U.S. Bureau of Land Management regulation intended to give the public a greater voice during that agency's planning periods.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Will Be Earlier Than Usual This Year

The National Park Service will offer a number of special programs and services during the 2017 National Cherry Blossom Festival, including festival-related lantern walks, ranger talks, and tours around the Tidal Basin and National Mall. Park Service events, which are free, will be held from March 15 through April 2. Peak bloom of the cherry trees is expected to occur between March 14-17.

Lake Crescent Highway Rehab Project At Olympic National Park Pushed To Late April

The contracting process for rehabilitation of 12 miles of the Lake Crescent section of Highway 101 and four miles of East Beach Road at Olympic National Park in Washington state remains under way, so this spring’s construction schedule has been adjusted. Construction is now slated to begin in late April this year. This project is being managed collaboratively by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Park Service.
